About This Yacht

Ticker is a Tripp 37, drawn by William Tripp III and built by Holby Marine. Only a handful of these boats were finished, and this one was completed in 1986. She is a masthead sloop with a fin keel and a spade rudder, built in fiberglass to be sailed hard and still lived aboard. She lies at Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit.

On deck she is a proper performance cruiser. Length is 37 feet, waterline 31 feet, and beam 12 feet. Draft is 6 feet 10 inches. Displacement is 12,034 pounds, with 5,400 pounds of ballast. The rig is the class masthead sloop, with a reported sail area of about 645 square feet.

Auxiliary power is a Yanmar 3GM30F diesel, 29 horsepower, driving through a V-drive to a folding propeller. There is no hour meter aboard, so no engine-hour figure is stated.

Below, the Tripp 37 is laid out as a racer that can cruise: a workable galley, a head, and berths for a small crew, finished in the straightforward way Holby built these boats. She is meant for club racing on the lakes and for a weekend passage, not for a marina that never leaves the dock.

Ticker is in Detroit, Michigan. Showings can be arranged by appointment.

A Racer You Can Cruise

Ticker is a Tripp 37, one of only 9 custom-built by Barret Holby of Holby Marine. She was designed by William Tripp III, principal designer for Doug Peterson at the height of IOR racing.

Set up for racing, she comes with a full wardrobe of racing sails, including a carbon fiber mainsail and 152% genoa built in 2022 and hardly used, plus 3 spinnakers. A B&G Zeus2 color GPS chartplotter sits on a swivel mount for viewing from the cockpit, with 4 B&G Triton2 color displays.

She is just as comfortable cruising. The cockpit seats six safely aft, and she comes with a brand new Dacron mainsail and stackpack for easy shorthanded sail handling. Below, the interior is all unfinished teak, with a proper door to the head for privacy and an Origo stove for hot meals and coffee. A swim ladder is included.
